The Complete Stax/Volt Singles: 1959-1968 Volume 4 Vinyl [3LP]
The vinyl debut of The Complete Stax/Volt Singles 1959-1968!
As one of two major mid-century R&B studios, Stax and Volt demonstrated the evolution of R&B in the U.S., delivering a comprehensive map of gritty, deep Southern soul. This set is a master class in deep southern soul.
By the decadeâs midpoint, the collective roster had indisputably hit its stride. VOLUMES 3 and 4 effectively capture lightning in a bottle, showcasing these artists at the height of their powers with essential cuts like âYou Donât Know Like I Knowâ (Sam & Dave), âRespectâ (Otis Redding), âA Womanâs Loveâ (Carla Thomas), âJump Backâ (Rufus Thomas), âGrab This Thing (Part 1)â (The Mar-Keys), âSatisfactionâ (Otis Redding), âSugar Sugarâ (The Mad Lads), âKnock On Woodâ (Eddie Floyd), âOh, Pretty Womanâ (Albert King), and âJingle Bellsâ (Booker T. & the MGs), among many others.
The collection was remastered from the original Stax/Volt mono single masters. In a few cases, the tapes were lost, and original disc sources were used. Analog-to-digital mastering was done with a specially modified and restored Ampex 350 full-track mono machine with original tube electronics. All equipment in the transfer process was chosen specifically to recreate the Stax sound on todayâs stereo systems without compromise.
